Why is that shocking?

6 million people were killed 55 years ago because of their religion.

Millions of blacks were killed and forced onto boats 250 years ago.

We killed off most of the indians to take the western and SE portions of the U.S

We are a very racist world.

Deal with it.

SAGUENAY, QUE.<!-- /dateline --> -- The Chicoutimi Saguenéens apologized to Ted Nolan yesterday after some of the junior hockey team's fans hurled racial slurs at the Moncton Wildcats coach during a game last week.<!-- /Summary -->Nolan, 47, an Ojibwa from Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., said the verbal abuse he endured from the crowd at the Centre Georges-Vézina in Saguenay during Friday's 4-3 loss left him trembling after the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League game.
Some fans whooped and made tomahawk gestures at the aboriginal coach, prompting the Saguenéens to post an apology on their World Wide Web site.
"The disgraceful acts by several spectators don't represent the image of our fans and the regional population," the team said on the website.

Nolan, a former coach of the National Hockey League's Buffalo Sabres, said he thought racial incidents of that nature happened in the 1940s.

He told reporters after the game that the league should do more to combat verbal abuse from fans.
"I don't know if it's a matter of them needing better security here, but they do need better manners in this town," he said.
League commissioner Gilles Courteau, in a statement issued yesterday, called the incident "distasteful and regrettable."
Courteau said the league would take steps to ensure incidents like it don't happen again, but didn't elaborate.

I am shocked that in this modern era there are people out there who are so ignorant....

Us Canadians are not used to it or segregated in the same way y'all are in the states.... where the blacks stay with the black, the jews with the jews, the whites with the whites....

Over here it is much more multi-cultural in the sense that people do mix

what a bunch of Classless, Uneducated Quebecers, makes me embaressed to live in this province.

On May 29, 1733, the right of Canadians to keep Indians in slavery was upheld at Quebec City

Ted Nolan has received more than 300 letters of support, including many e-mailed from SooToday.com readers, over his treatment last week in Chicoutimi, Quebec.

"Some fans started doing the war cry, the tomahawk chop, the shooting of the bow and arrows and saying some derogatory statements about my native background right from the get go," Nolan said during an appearance this morning on CTV's Canada AM.

"It hurt when I was seven years old and 17 years old, and I just turned 47 and it hurt as much as it did it back then," the former NHL Coach of the Year said.

The Chicoutimi Sagueneens issued an apology to Nolan yesterday and the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League described the behaviour as "distasteful and disgraceful."

Writing in today's edition of the Toronto Sun, Saultbie Joe Warmington predicts that Nolan will get his revenge by winning the 2006 Memorial Cup.

"I know Ted. He'll get his revenge at Memorial Cup time. And I'll bet one day, he'll win that Stanley Cup," Warmington writes. "I wonder if then they'll stop calling him names."

I am simply commenting on how racial tensions are less explosive here, & it is a much more multicultural country than most....

today, in 2005.... not the 1700's

To understand the present you have to look at the past.

...back to the subject at hand...

when i was a kid Teddy was my favorite player on the Adirondack Red Wings (upstate NY). I often wonder why he is black balled from the NHL. If my memory is correct, he only coached 1 or 2 years in the bigs, and took the Sabres to the Stanley Cup Finals.

Then he got fired, and you never heard about him again. I wonder what went down?
